Sewing

I took a break from costuming from 2022 through 2025 due to some major life events, including the weddings of my friends and myself. My sewing efforts went towards bridesmaid dresses, wedding guest apparel, and my own wedding dress.

I spent one year creating my wedding dress (1.5 if you include designing and re-designing it many times). I bought fabric in NYC, knowing I wanted a blue wedding dress, and felt it was very important to touch and see the fabric in person. Making my wedding dress was an excellent excuse to buy “the fancy sparkly fabric.” I patterned the dress from scratch, sewed it over a few months, and finished it roughly one month before the wedding. I did swap out sleeves for the beads on the shoulders since I could not get the sleeves to fit the way I wanted, while still giving me freedom of movement for dancing. It only required a small bustle, as I did not have a long train; I didn’t want to worry about it getting caught up on the mountain or gondola.

I was a bridesmaid twice in 2024 and am attending weddings of two close friends in 2025 and 2026. Rather than just buy a dress and be done with it…I decided to make my outfits.

Costuming

I have been cosplaying for more than a decade, having learned how to sew and construct my own costumes from scratch, some of which have earned awards.
